Director Gore Verbinski exits Fox's Gambit movie

Channing Tatum Gambit

Earlier today, word came out that Gambit's newest director, Gore Verbinski, made a decision to separate ways with the 20 Century Fox because of conflicts in schedule.

Beleaguered superhero properties are nothing new for Hollywood, but the problems that have plagued Channing Tatum's X-Men spin-off Gambit are one for the ages, with the film having lost its third director in a row. The Ragin' Cajun has always been a popular character within the X-Men universe, but has struggled for years to try and star in his own film.

The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news of the date change along with the release date shifts for Deadpool 2 and The New Mutants, claimed that studio insiders are still enthusiastic about the troubled project, which they describe as a heist movie with comedic elements. We're hoping that Tatum's enthusiasm for the film doesn't wane or else fans are never going to get to see this Gambit movie.

Verbinski's reported exit is said to be due to scheduling conflicts.

The film was expected to go into production in March, which now seems unlikely. After all, over an entire year passed between Liman exiting Gambit and Verbinski coming aboard. Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinski is the latest director to part ways with the X-Men spin-off movie, which was rumored to start production this March. Considering Gambit's now had three directors to leave the film, there probably isn't a queue of talent waiting to take it on with this whiff on it. Then, Tatum's Gambit could conceivably make his debut in an MCU installment, and not have to carry his own film right off the bat.
