Detroit police officer shot in line of duty dies

A Detroit police officer who was shot in the head on January 24 while responding to a domestic violence call, died on Sunday afternoon.

Another Detroit police officer has been hospitalized and unconscious since he was shot responding to a domestic situation in April 2017. "He fought a good fight".

Detroit Police Chief James Craig called Doss Jr.an "American hero".

Mayor Mike Duggan was also present at the hospital when Doss died.

On arriving at the scene, officers saw Brooks standing outside a home with a weapon which he then used to fire shots at police squad cars.

Decharlos O. Brooks, 43, the suspected killer of Doss Jr., was arrested after a standoff stemming from the shooting and charged with eight counts of attempted murder Saturday. No additional charge information was immediately available from the Andrew C. Baird Detention Facility where he was being held without bond.

Doss Jr. had a 9-month-old son, Eli, with his longtime girlfriend, Emily Crouse, the News reports. I want to thank God for the 25 years that have allowed me the honor and the pleasure to raise such a great young man, who was so positive and who was so humble. Doss was shot while in the passenger seat.

"He was born here, got his education, could have gone anyplace, but he came home because he wanted to make the city a better place", Duggan said.

He was a two-year veteran of the force. Doss was hit twice and was taken to the hospital by his partner, Officer Samuel Anderson.

The shooting happened as officers responded to a home on the city's east side, near Chene and Interstate 94, following a report a man arguing with his wife had fired gunshots.

A GoFundMe page set up for Doss's family stated that "Glenn chose a career serving the community because his willingness to help others was evident in everything he did". 25, succumbed to his injuries Sunday afternoon after four days in the hospital.
