CBS News political director fired for 'inappropriate behavior'

CBS News has cut ties with political director Steve Chaggaris amid allegations of "inappropriate behavior", Deadline has confirmed.

Chaggaris worked at CBS News for several years, having joined the network in 1999.

CBS staffers were informed of Chaggaris' exit on Wednesday evening, according to CNN's report. After stints at news startup TBD.com and Yahoo News, Chaggaris returned to CBS News in 2012. According to his profile on CBS' website, his other assignments with the broadcaster included serving as director of political coverage for the 2008 presidential campaign, covering the Congress for nearly four years from 2001-2003 and once again in 2005.

Chaggaris could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

His firing comes six weeks after CBS dismissed another big name from its roster of journalists, Charlie Rose. He was sacked Wednesday for "violating company policy". In March of 2016, he was made political director, which meant he oversaw coverage of the presidential election, including President Trump.

Rose, who co-hosted the morning show, was sacked after The Washington Post revealed allegations of sexual misconduct made by a number of women.

Since the revelations of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's alleged sex crimes this past October, a number of high-profile media figures have been forced out of their jobs due to similar accusations of misconduct.

The news division of CBS Corp. did not elaborate on the allegations.
