Boston Celtics continue to struggle with Kyrie Irving on the bench

Lonzo Ball OUT for Lakers vs. Bulls Friday'still no agility in practice

Los Angeles exacted some revenge on Boston, as the Celtics defeated them back in November at the TD Garden, 107-96.

By the end, the Celts were scrambling, and, for the last 19.8 seconds, they were doing it without Al Horford, who took a shot to the face while fouling Hart, but was fine afterward.

Jordan Clarkson played 34 minutes off the bench and hit 8-of-17 shots for 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in Tuesday's win over the Celtics. Smart also made two free throws with less than 20 seconds remaining to get Boston within one and help set up the dramatic finish.

This is one of the best wins of the season for the Lakers, as the Celtics are now pacing the Eastern Conference and have the third-best winning percentage in the National Basketball Association.

Still, neither Smart nor Irving could match what Kuzma did down the stretch. The Lakers are 7-3 over their last 10, and have won three in a row. But with 5.7 seconds left in the game, Caldwell-Pope missed both free throws after the Celtics intentionally fouled him.

There are a few reasons as to why the Celtics are slumping, but the most noticeable cause has to be the lack of scoring with Kyrie Irving on the bench.

Boston now resides at the top of the Eastern Conference and 1.5 games ahead of the Toronto Raptors in second thanks to the plays of Irving, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown.

"I have confidence that those guys that missed them tonight will make them in the future", Walton said.

And then there is the hope that Gordon Hayward might find a healthy ankle in time to impact the Celtics' playoff run.

Boston coach Brad Stevens said the move is designed "just to mix it up" during Hayward's extensive rehab, which is still proceeding on schedule. Stevens said the forward could be traveling with the team full-time when March rolls around.

The Boston Celtics' Kyrie Irving was recently announced as a started at the NBA All-Star Game taking place at Staples Center on Sunday, February 18.

On the season, the Lakers are averaging 106.6 points, 46.5 rebounds and 23.7 assists per game.

The Lakers know they will have to live with Kuzma's shot selection, which sometimes can feel like the aggressive and confident rookie is throwing up a heat check when he's not on fire yet. "He's a really good spot-up shooter", Stevens said with a grin.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have been without rookie Lonzo Ball for their past five games.
