Bannon Given More Time to Sort Out with White House

It comes after two previous committee interviews didn't go so well.

MSNBC host Ari Melber asked former Watergate prosecutor Nick Ackerman on Thursday for his thoughts on former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon's on-again and off-again decisions about testifying before Congress and the Mueller investigation. That's according to a person familiar with the committee's investigation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the matter. A Democrat on the committee believes he was under a White House "gag order".

Hope Hicks' highly anticipated testimony before the House Intelligence Committee was abruptly delayed Thursday amid questions about whether the White House communications director would be able to respond to inquiries about topics after the campaign season, four sources told CNN.

A White House spokesperson was not available to comment about the Hicks statement.

Hope Hicks, a longtime aide to Mr. Trump now serving as White House communications director, was scheduled to appear Friday before the committee.

The White House's contention: Pretty much everything is off limits until the president says it's not. Representative Adam Schiff, the ranking member of the panel, claimed the White House canceled the interview.

But Lewandowski was reportedly a regular chatterbox compared to Trump's former chief strategist Steve Bannon.

The Hicks interview would have capped a busy week for the House panel, following interviews with Bannon, Lewandowski and Rick Dearborn, the White House deputy chief of staff.

The White House is reportedly instructing witnesses to limit their testimony, despite press secretary Sarah Sanders saying they've been and are being "fully cooperative" with the Russian Federation investigation.
