Terrorism suspected in Philadelphia car-ramming attempt

A man driving erratically in a Philadelphia neighborhood Monday morning was shot by an off-duty police officer after the driver allegedly tried to run over pedestrians, CBS Philly reported.

Terrorism might be the possible motive of the suspect, who was driving a black Honda, Fox News reported.

The pedestrian who was struck is in serious condition and did not appear to have life threatening injuries. "This male is about 6 feet 1, 250 (pounds), and immediately gets aggressive against the off-duty officer", Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said.

An off-duty Philadelphia Police Detective noticed the vehicle by the intersection of Broad & Bigler Streets in South Philadelphia when he cut the vehicle off.

The driver is in hospital in an "extremely critical condition" with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

An off-duty officer reportedly gave a verbal warning to the driver before shooting him in the face.

Police say the pedestrian that was injured was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Honda then emerged from the vehicle and "began scuffling with the detective", said the report. Officials said they were able to walk.
