Ashes: Trevor Bayliss to resign as England Coach in 2019

England have admitted No.3 James Vince is on the chopping block and changes beckon following their disastrous Ashes tour

Bayliss - who will leave his role with England at the end of his contract in 2019 - retains belief in Root's abilities as a leader and expects him to learn from their Ashes nightmare.

Bayliss, 55, also led England to a test series win in South Africa and he will leave the job next year after a home summer that also includes the World Cup in England.

But Boycott told BBC Radio 5 Live that the series result was a fair reflection of the gap between the two teams, with most of the standout performances coming from the home side."I think it's a little false by a number of the England players to say at times they were quite close and that there were moments here and there".

"I told Andrew Strauss (director of England cricket) probably 12 months ago that September 2019 is when I'm contracted to and that would see me out", he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"I've never been anywhere more than four or five years", said Bayliss.

He added, "He feels that whenever he's had a break in the last couple of years, it's always been a T20 series. A new voice and a different approach reinvigorates things". "It is about the team you are working for and making them as good as possible in the future".

Vince and Stoneman struggled in England's 4-0 Ashes series defeat in Australia, with both averaging in the mid-twenties and scoring just four half-centuries between them.

"The captain is in charge, but we're there to help out".

However, the Three Lions were thrashed 4-0 in a five-match Test series by India before their resounding Ashes defeat in Australia.

It is unclear whether England will make many changes to their squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, but Bayliss made it clear that it will take some time for his side to get back to their best. "If you bring three or four young blokes into the team it will be a slower process as they learn what the global game is about", he said.

England has a busy worldwide schedule this year as they have to play limited-over games in Australia and are also scheduled to tour New Zealand in March this year. [Dawid] Malan has probably done enough, he's probably cemented one of those spots we were after.

Vince and Stoneman have shown what they are capable of, but will be disappointed that they weren't able to capitalise on their good play.
