Apple's iPhone X In 2019 Could Feature A Smaller Notch

The Coronation

That's when Apple finally caved to the wants of its customers and released two new iPhone models with larger displays. This will not happen this year so this years handsets will have the same design as the current models.

Component suppliers in the iPhone supply chain are likely to be forced to prolong their Lunar New Year holidays in the first quarter of 2018 due to low order visibility for iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, according sources from the supply chain. The screen reaches just as far at the top of the phone as well, but only on the sides.

He also admitted that Apple combining face ID with a camera was likely, saying "we expect more integration into cameras over 2018/2018".

The idea is that by pairing the Face ID system - which lets you unlock the phone with your face - with the existing selfie camera, Apple could save space.

Apple's expected to unveil three new iPhones in 2018, including a second-generation iPhone X and all-new "iPhone X Plus".

According to a recent report the 2019 iPhone range will have a smaller notch at the top of the device than the current range. The source mentions a singular face recognition module, whereas Face ID is powered by an infrared camera, dot projector and flood illuminator. It should be noted that this is a translation of a Chinese-language report.

According to a report from Korean IT site ET News, Apple is now looking into combining the facial-recognition module with the camera module on future iPhones, which would shrink the overall size of the "notch" that houses Apple's TrueDepth camera system. Apart from allowing Apple to squeeze a more complex solution into the phone, this might also allow the company to reduce the footprint of the sensor array.

It will be great news for some Apple fans, many of whom still slate the notch as "ugly".

Nothing is confirmed for the time being, of course, and many people out there like the notch.
