Afghan government supports Trump's recent tweet about Pakistan

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi presides over a meeting of the National Security Committee on Tuesday

That month was also the first time the administration said it would withhold aid money.

Pakistan's foreign minister, Khawaja M. Asif, wrote on Twitter "We will respond to President Trump's tweet shortly inshallah. Will let the world know the truth...difference between facts & fiction".

"They (Pakistanis) work with us at times, and they also harbour the terrorists that attack our troops in Afghanistan".

The White House later said the U.S. has suspended its Dollars 255 million military aid to Pakistan, saying the fate of such assistance will depend on Islamabad's decisive action against terrorists.

Earlier Tuesday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, attended by the country's Foreign, Interior and Defense Ministers, along with chiefs of staff of the army, navy and air force.

Trump first signaled that the U.S. was reassessing its fractious relations with Pakistan in August, when he accused Islamabad of harboring "agents of chaos". "We can review our cooperation if it is not appreciated".

Michael Kugelman, senior associate for South Asia at the Woodrow Wilson Center, cautioned that people should not "overstate the significance of Trump's tweet for policy".

Vice President Mike Pence in a surprise visit to Afghanistan on December 22 said the USA administration was putting Pakistan on notice to end its support for Taliban insurgents, a comment that generated a chorus of criticism from the Pakistani civilian and military establishment, which has denied harboring Afghan militants.

Tying any future security assistance to hard counter-terrorism measures by Islamabad, the official said, "The President has made clear that the United States expects Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorists and militants on its soil".

Islamabad has repeatedly dismissed U.S. assertions that it's harboring terrorists and doing too little to fight extremists.

On Monday, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif told the Pakistani TV network Geo: "We have already told the U.S. that we will not do more, so Trump's "no more" does not hold any importance".

The Corps Commanders Conference was held at the General Headquarters and discussed input for the National Security Committee meeting.

Haley said that if Pakistan continued to protect and harbor terrorists, they would withdraw financial aid and funding.

Lisa Curtis, who is the director for South and Central Asia on Trump's National Security Council, co-authored an article with former Pakistani ambassador Husain Haqqani past year which said that the "activities and operations of diverse terror groups on and from Pakistani soil, and the government's failure to rein them in, threaten vital U.S. national security interests in the region".

In 2017 the White House increased troop levels in Afghanistan to about 14,000, a move some experts have said shows little departure from the strategies the USA has used in the country since the start of the US -led invasion.

Pakistani authorities lately have alleged that militants conducting terrorist attacks on both sides of the border are using refugee localities as hideouts.
