2005's Star Wars Battlefront II is still being updated

Watch a 2016 Star Wars space combat game that never made it into production

In October, just before the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017), multiplayer functionality was restored to the original Battlefront 2 via an update. According to Disney, it's a mass of bug fixes, which resolve issues with Steam username displays, ping calculations, and the game's lobby and matchmaking. We'd be surprised if that happened given how troublesome Battlefront 2's first few months have been, but it's not out of the question. It seems Disney was the one responsible for the update since they have taken over the whole franchise including its games and are working with their partners to improve some of old "Star Wars" titles. Notable among those is Destauch's "Darth Vader In Pink".

Gamers rebelled against the game late previous year over its reliance on in-game purchases to unlock the most desireable content. EA countered that the items and characters could be unlocked via gameplay accomplishments, but many critics noted they were nearly impossible to attain. This week brought another albeit more minor update for Battlefront II (2005) on PC.

After watching ace pilot Poe Dameron at work in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, you're probably all the more eager for a return to the days of Rogue Squadron and X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. It's been a long, long time since we've gotten a really great shooter in the Star Wars universe, and we very almost had one, as footage from a 2016 pitch has surfaced (via Kotaku).

It can be noted that last November, Jorgensen addressed the reason why they chose to fill the controversial "Battlefront II" loot boxes with usable items instead of the usual cosmetics.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Do you think EA will remain open to allowing cosmetic mods in Star Wars Battlefront 2?
